About me - Nicky

I’m not the expert in your life; that’s you

You are the expert in your life and your experiences. I am here to listen to you with compassion, attune to your needs without judgment, and support you with insights and individualised strategies and techniques for where you are at, just now.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (PACFA registered) and yoga and meditation teacher, therapy with me is informed by my yogic philosophy which aligns with the Person-Centred and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy modalities I base my therapeutic work in. My purpose and intention is to create a holistic, tailored experience for you, as my client. My professional training, and life experience, allows me to draw from a variety of tools and methodologies, depending on what works best for your unique personality, style and current situation.

Nicky Angelone Counsellor Coach

How I work

I’m here to support you and provide a safe space - so we can attune to what you need and work together, in support of your healing and growth.

My approach is not locked into one method. As a therapist, I work with counselling and psychotherapeutic modalities, and can work with a coaching style of therapy using Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Positive Psychology. I tailor our sessions to meet you where you are, and what you are needing to move from surviving to thriving; or from thriving to optimising.

Your work with me will be grounded in scientific, evidence-based approaches, always centered around what’s achievable and sustainable for you. The therapeutic relationship we build is crucial—it’s the foundation for healing, change, and growth.

As your therapist I offer a safe, compassionate space for deeper exploration when life’s challenges require more than practical strategies. And for those who are wanting more of a coaching approach, we can work together to develop your vision for your life, set goals, and create actionable plans, and accountability, to bring them to life. If mindfulness and meditation is part of your journey, I am qualified to be your teacher, helping you learn and embed these practices into your daily life.

A little about me

I made a big change in my own life when I left a high-pressure corporate finance role of over two decades, after retraining as a counsellor. I then started my own business, to help others work through being stuck and it all being too hard, to help my clients get unstuck and find more meaning and peace in their lives. I’ve experienced extreme stress, burnout, and overwhelm. I know what it feels like to juggle work, parenting, grief, loss, and support loved ones through chronic, and terminal, illnesses; and to change career and set up a business. These personal experiences allow me to connect with my clients on a deep and personal level. I’m very comfortable, as a therapist, in these conversations due to this lived experience.

As your therapist, I am reliably there for you, for every session. We work collaboratively, focusing on what you need, in the context of your unique personality, temperament, and life experience.

Professional accreditations

There are many counsellors and coaches online, and finding a highly qualified practitioner can be overwhelming. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I am also a registered Meditation and Yoga Teacher. I practice yoga and meditation daily and teach yoga classes in my local community. I walk my talk and am committed to lifelong learning, driven by my passion for helping people improve their mental wellbeing and my curiosity in how we live and grow as humans. I am committed to ongoing professional, and personal, development.

Fun fact: Before retraining as a counsellor, I held a Bachelor of Economics and was a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA). My experience in Corporate Finance has been invaluable in working with high-achieving clients, especially those navigating stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and career transitions. I understand the pressures, the expectations, and the culture you’re working in.

Employee Assistance Programs

It is a privilege to support clients through their workplace EAP. I currently work with clients through Workplace Options and Clearhead, in this capacity. If you do have EAP available through your workplace I encourage you to utilise this service, for confidential counselling sessions paid for by your employer. The issue you’re wishing to work with does not need to be work related.

Qualifications, Certifications, Courses & Supports

Qualifications

After my Graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy, I had a break to begin practicing as a Counsellor. I then re-enrolled and continued with the Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy Program, completing:

  • Interpersonal Process in Psychotherapy (2023)

  • Key Competencies in Brief Dynamic Psychotherapy (2023)

  • Child & Family Therapy (2024)

I made the difficult decision to not continue the Masters degree for a number of reasons. Primarily the remaining units were not going to support me in being a better therapist for my clients. This decision involved personal therapy and deep reflection regarding the purpose of completing this qualification for me. If this qualification was required for me to continue to practice I would have continued, however in my circumstances it is not required. The costs of continuing significantly outweighed the benefits, in my situation. This was one of the most difficult decisions, for my ego, in my life.

Previous career qualifications - Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) Program (1994-1995), Bachelor of Economics - Monash University (1990-1993), Cert IV in Project Management - UXC (2013), The GROW Model or Coaching & Mentoring (2015)
